SETTING GOALS AND SURPASSING YOUR LIMITS
If cycling is something you’ve considered, or you’re new to the sport, keeping up with the experienced riders may seem intimidating. However, becoming a better, faster cyclist is easier than you think! Especially when you have a dedicated Massachusetts bike shop like CK Bikes at your side!
By setting realistic expectations and goals for yourself, you can achieve things that you may think are impossible. From expert bicycle repair to educating our customers on safety, our team is here to help you achieve your goals along your journey. In this article, we’re taking a look at some great steps to bring you closer to reaching your highest potential!
IDENTIFY YOUR LONG-TERM GOAL
Before you ever sit on your bike, set your end goal. By doing so, you can easily motivate yourself on those days where you just might not “be feeling it.”
SET STEPPING-STONES IN PLACE
Once your end goal is set, it’s time to bring it back to reality. As the saying goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day – neither is riding the Tour de France. On paper, jot down your ultimate goal and creating the stepping stones you’ll need to achieve to get there. Be honest with yourself as this is your journey, no one else’s.
CREATE REALISTIC WEEKLY GOALS THAT ARE ACHIEVABLE
Now that your stepping stones are in order, create an attainable schedule to reach each one. By considering your work/life balance in a realistic manner, you’ll set yourself up for success, not failure. However, it’s important to be easy on yourself too – we’re not rock stars here, and we will have times that schedules may not fall into place.
CONSIDER THESE HELPFUL TIPS DURING YOUR TRAINING
Beyond goals and schedules, technique and know-how are just as important. Here are a few items to keep in mind during your journey:
- Bike fitting is a must before hitting the road
- Stay hydrated
- Plan your diet when you know a ride is coming up. Food is fuel.
- Increase your speed at least 1 MPH each week to gradually build endurance
- Hills are your friend, not your enemy. Start small and breathe!
- Fast cornering comes with experience – take it slow while maintaining speed and body position.
- Friends that ride together stay together. Even if you’re of different levels, riding in a group will provide you with encouragement and memories.
No matter what level you’re at, no matter what goals you set, remember that every achievement – big or small – is a step in the right direction. Hard work, dedication, and a trusted bike shop in Massachusetts are essential elements for a successful journey. At CK Bikes, we have a team of professional cyclists to help you achieve your goals. Your journey is as limitless as your imagination.
